French Home Improvement giant Adeo opened its first Leroy Merlin store in Africa during late September.
The 17,000m² Leroy Merlin store is located on the outskirts of Johannesburg, just a few hundred metres from a Massmart Builder’s Express. Two more Leroy Merlin outlets are currently under construction in South Africa, with a fourth planned for 2020. All of these will be located in the province of Gauteng. The banner already had a nearby pop-up store and an online retail operation in South Africa.
Leroy Merlin SA CEO Cedric Sennepin commented “We have the capacity not only to steal market share but increase the overall market with new practices, new offers and services, including workshops to teach DIY skills.”
