A SagaPoll survey conducted online in Kenya during May has found that almost two-thirds of respondents were “extremely worried” by Covid-19, with more than half fearful of a decline in their income. A third said they had skipped meals, while another quarter said they were eating less.
Meanwhile, economic uncertainty has driven a sharp decline in consumer spending, with 28% of respondents spending less on non-alcoholic beverages and 24% reducing their expenditure on packaged food.
With Kenyans currently subject to a dusk-to-dawn lockdown, online shopping has taken off, particularly for groceries.
