French retail giant Groupe Casino continues to steadily expand its presence in sub-Saharan Africa. In March, the company launched its Bao Cash & Carry brand in Cameroon, with a 7,500-square-meter outlet in Bassa, an industrial suburb of the capital Douala. The warehouse-style setting, replete with pallet-laden floor-to-ceiling shelving (reminiscent of IKEA), is a format with which Casino has had considerable success in Latin America and is now rolling out in Africa.
